Photomontage
Photomontage Title: Modern Day Dungeon
By Nina Sousley
This assignment was a little more complicated than I expected. After writing down many ideas of what I wanted to create, I narrowed it down to “Social Media Issues”. I began by downloading a Photoshop program to create my photomontage. To my surprise, the program was not user friendly. After spending many hours on it and trying other versions of the program, nothing I tried would turn out. Adding pictures on top of each other and blending it into the background was very difficult for me to figure out. I tried using the help setting and asking other people how to navigate the program, but had no luck. I became frustrated and very unsatisfied with what I had.
My next step was to simplify this project and do it the way I knew how. I decided to put it together manually instead of digitally. I came across a less complicated program under photomontager.com. After searching through their pictures I found the perfect match for my photomontage; the picture of a lap top. This program allowed me to add multiple pictures to the designated area and to play around with the transparency settings. However, I had more pictures I wanted to incorporate into my photomontage to make a statement on this issue. This program would not allow me to use the remaining room I had outside the designated area of the computer screen. The only way to fix this problem was to print out what I already had and manually cut and paste the rest of the pictures unto it.
It took several printing jobs to get all the pictures the right size. After they were cut out, I glued them unto an index board. All the pieces complimented the overall project well. I finished by taking a digital picture of my final project. This made it blend well by softening the edges and really making my project come together.
The concept behind my creation – I believe that social media has become a big issue in the past few years. For many, it has become an addiction, a cell- or dungeon. The time many spend social networking has increased, creating an issue within marriages and families. Lack of privacy within these networks has also brought many problems making it unsafe, especially for the younger generation. The realistic way to handle these issues is to use caution and to educate the possible dangers these networks may bring. Along with caution, adult supervision and responsibility should be used.
